Yankees Lose Series Final to Jays
July 6, 2009. The New York Yankees lost this afternoon to the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6. Early in the game the Yankees trailed 7-1. But they rallied in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings, only to fall short with the tying run on base. Joe Girardi got ejeted in the first inning for arguing an out call by the third base umpire when Jeter tried to steal third. The replays showed he wasin fact safe. Andy Pettitte was ineffective, giving up six runs in six plus innings. The five walks didn’t help much. Eric Hinski played his first game for the Yankees in right field, going 2 for 4 including a homerun. Final box score: Jays 7 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Yankees 6 runs, 12 hits, 0 errors.
