Yankee Bats Come Alive, Trounce Baltimore
The New York Yankee bats were hot this afternoon as the Bronx Bombers dominated the Baltimore Orioles this afternoon 11-2. A.J. Burnett had a strong outing, going 5 1/3 innings, giving up 2 runs, 7 hits, 1 walk while striking out 6. The Yankee bullpen was terrific again, ( Phil Coke, Jose Veras, Brian Bruney and Mariano Rivera) giving up no runs and no hits for the second day in a row. Mariano pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with 1 strike out. Mark Teixeira got his season going with a homerun to lead off the fourth, at that time tying the game. Robinson Cano walked and Nick Swisher followed with a 2 run homer. The Yankees added 4 more runs in the sixth, 2 more in the seventh on Cano’s two run homer, and another 2 runs in the ninth. Nick Swisher’s double in the ninth with two outs gave him five rbi for the day. The final box score: NYY 11 runs, 13 hits, 0 errors; Balt. 2 runs, 7 hits, 1 error.
