Forget the Sweep, Yanks Lose to Royals
Sunday, Apr 12th. Despite a promising start and a solid performance from starter Joba Chamberlain, the New York Yankees lost to the Kansas City Royals 6-4. The Yankees took an early lead in the first. Gardner singled, stole second base, moved to third on a fielders choice and scored standing up on a wild pitch. His speed will really help out the Yankees this season. Jobo gave up a solo homerun in the third and the score was tied 1-1. An error in the fourth by Nick Swisher helped the Royals score a couple of runs making it 3-1. In the sixth, the Yankees scored 3 runs to make it 4-3. Brian Bruney replaced Joba to start the seventh (Joba had given up only 1 earned run). Bruney retired the Royals in order. With two outs in the eighth, Phil Cope came in for the Yanks. With a runner already on base, Cope gave up a few hits and just like that the Royals were leading 6-4. The Yankees went down in order in the ninth and that was the game. Final box score: Yankees 4 runs, 6 hits, 1 error; Royals 6 runs, 7 hits, 1 error. Next Yankee game is Monday, Apr 13th, v. Tampa Bay (Rays home opener) at 7:08 PM.
