Yankees Walk Off Again

Tuesday, Setember 29, 2009.  The New York Yankees won their fifteenth walkoff game last night 4-3 over the Kansas City Royals.  This time the hero was  Juan Miranda, just up from the Yankees triple A team in Scranton, Pa.   Miranda hit a single in the bottom of the ninth to cap off another come from behind win and earned the now traditional pie in the face.  A.J. Burnett had another stong outing, going six and one third innings.  Next game: Wed., Sept.30th, 7:05 PM, Kansas City @ New York.

Yankees Sweep Bosox, Clinch Title

Sunday, September 27, 2009.  The New York Yankees are American League Champions. They defeated the Boston Red Sox yesterday in another come from behind win 4-2.  They sweep the final series with the Red Sox and gained home field advantage for the playoffs.  Andy Pettitte pitched six strong innings as the Yankees won their 100th game.  Final box score: Red Sox – 2 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Yankees – 4 runs, 10 hits, 1 errors.  Next game: Monday, Sept. 28th, 7:05 PM, Kansas City @ New York.

Friday, September 25, 2009.  The New York Yankees, behind Joba Chamberlain, defeated the Boston Red Sox tonight in the Stadium 9-5.  Alex Rodriguez went three for three and drove in four runs.  Joba, now without inning restrictions, went six innings, gave up three runs and earned his  eighth win, his first since early August.  The Yankees had their running game going, stealing seven bases.  Final box score: Red Sox – 5 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Yankees – 9 runs, 14 hits, 1 error.  Next game: Saturday, Sept. 26th, 4:10 PM, Boston @ New York.

Yankees Trounce Mariners

September 19, 2009.  The New York Yankees wasted no time recovering from last nights shocking loss.  CC Sabathia was outstanding tonight as the New York Yankees had their way with Seattles pitching defeating them 10-1.  CC went seven strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on four hits while striking out eight.  Sabathia is now 18-7 on the season and is tied for the American League lead in wins.  Brian Burney, sporting a new number, 99, (he had been wearing number 38) pitched the eighth giving up two hits but no runs.  Jonathan Albaladejo came in for the ninth and let two men on base but held Seattle scoreless.   Mark Texeria had a big night.  Texeria went 4 for 5 with two homeruns (#’s 35 & 36) and 5 rbi’s on the night.  He also hit his third triple in his last five games and leads the American League with 118 rbi’s.  It was also his fourth two homer game this season.  Final box score: Yankees – 10 runs, 18 hits, 1 error;  Mariners – 1 run, 7 hits, 0 errors. Friday, September 17, 2009.  It looked like another win for the New York Yankees.  They were winning 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth and Mariano Rivera was pitching.  A.J. Burnett had started for the Yankees and he was outstanding tonight and he left after seven innings leading 2-1.  Phil Hughes pitched a scoreless eighth.  Mariano stuck out the first two in the ninth; the second one gave him his 1,000th career strikeout.  Then it happened, a double, and then a homerun.  The Mariners walked off with a 3-2 victory.  Ugh.  Final box score: Yankees – 2 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Mariners – 3 runs, 9 hits, 0 errors.  Next game: Saturday, Sept. 19th, 10:10 PM, New York @ Seattle.

Yankees Spilt Series with Blue Jays

Wednesday, Sepember 16, 2009.  The New York Yankees won the second game of their two game series witth the Toronto Blue Jays tonight with another dramatic come from behind walk off 5-4 win.  Chad Gaudin started for New York and pitched well, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, striking out 2 and walking only 1. Trailing 4-2 in the eighth, Hideki Matsui hit a two run homer, his 25th of the season, to tie the game 4-4.  Mariano pitched a scoreless ninth.  Brett Gardner led off the ninth with a single, stole second, went to third on Jeter’s  ground out, setting the stage for Francisco Cervilli’s first walk off hit, a single up the middle.  It was the Yankees 14th walk off win this year, the most in the majors.  Final box score: Jays – 4 runs, 10 hits, 1 error;  Yankees – 5 runs, 9 hits, 1 error.  Next game: (Thursday is an off day).  Friday, Sept. 18th, 10:10 PM, New York @ Seattle.

Jays Use Long Ball to Topple Yanks

Tuesday, September 15, 2009.  The Toronto Blue Jays hit five homeruns, four off of Yankee starter Sergio Mitre, and defeated the New York Yankees tonight 10-4.  The Yankees actually out hit the Jays but just couldn’t get the runs home.  They has taken an early lead off of Doc Holiday in the second but Mitre gave it right back to the Jays in the top of the third.  It was all downhill from there.  In the bottom of the eighth, after having a pitch thrown behind him, Posada scored and bumped into Jays reliver Jesse Carlson while crossing home plate.  Words were exchanged, then Jorge charged Carlson.  The benches emptied, and the brawl ensued.  When it was all over, Posada and Carlson were ejected and probably face fines and suspensions from the league.  All in all, not a pretty night.  Final box score:  Jays – 10 runs, 13 hits, 0 errors;  Yankees – 4 runs, 15 hits,  0 errors.  Next game: Wednesday, Sept 16th, 7:05 PM, Toronto @ New York.

Yankees Top Angels

September 14, 2009.   The New York Yankees defeated the LA Angels tonight in a one game series 5-3.   Joba Chamberlain started and went four innings, yeilding one run. Phil Hughes pitched the eighth with the Yankees leading 3-2 but blew the save allowing the Angels to tie the score.  But the Yankees scored twice in their half of the eighth making it 5-3.  Mariano came in for the ninth, shutting down the Angels.  Rivera earned his 40th save and Phil Hughes ended up with the win. Yankees Rip Orioles 13-3

Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009.  The New York Yankees bats came alive today as they defeated the Baltimore Orioles 13-3.  Hideki Matsui drove in six runs and  Melky Cabrera added four of his won.  CC Sabathia won his American League leading 17th game, yielding three runs through seven innings.  Final box score: Orioles – 3 runs, 6 hits, 0 errors; Yankees – 13 runs, 20 hits, 0 errors.  Next game: Monday, Sept. 14th, 7:05 PM.  LAA @ New York.

Yankees Drop Another One to Orioles

Saturday, September 12, 2009.  The New York Yankees dropped their second game in a row to the Baltimore Orioles 7-3. The Yankees took the lead 1-0 in the first inning but A.J. Burnett lost it in the second and gave up six runs. After that he found his control but it was too late. The Yankees did not score again until the ninth but it was too little, too late. The Yankees couldn’t touch Orioles rookie starter after the first.
