Tuesday, June 30, 2009. The New York Yankees won their sixth straight tonight defeating the Seattle Mariners 8-5 in a game delayed by rain once again. Joba Chamberlain started for New York but was not very effective, going five and one third innings and giving up three runs. Joba did not figure in the decision. Phil Hughs pitched a 1-2-3 inning in relief but Brian Burney was not as effective, blowing the Yankees two run lead. But Melky Cabrera came through again in the eighth, with an rbi double to put the Yankees ahead for good. Mariano pitched the ninth for his 501st save.
